Five Dogs In The House, What Was I Thinking?

I admit it. I have a definite weakness when it comes to puppies. Show me a puppy and I will fall in love. Needless to say, this is how I have found myself with 5 barking fur-babies in my house. Of course, that does not take into account the 4 meowing fur-babies.SAM_0007

I have quite a menagerie of pets. There is Rambo (8 years old) the 90 pound boxer, Sadee (7) the 45 pound English bulldog, Sophie(4-also known as Puppy Pia) the 15 pound shih-tzu, Puppy Cakes (1) the 10 pound shih-tzu/papillon mix and Naya (4 months old) the growing boxer/mastiff mix. Did I mention that I have a king-sized bed and they all sleep in the bed? As far as cats, we have Momo, Sophia, Sword and Fufu. Yes, my now 6 year old son named the cats and some of the dogs.

I admit that I do get frustrated at times with them. The dirt they bring in on their feet causes me to sweep several times a day and usually mop once a day. Luckily, I have linoleum floors and not carpet. The puppy stage brings a lot of chewing on things that are not supposed to be chewed on. NayaBelle is the one at this stage right now.

I love my babies and enjoy every stressed out moment with them. They keep me warm at night, they lay in my lap, they give me sugars and love me unconditionally and do not talk back.

Where Does Your Dog Sleep? (Nature’s Sleep Dog Bed Review)

rambo toyMy fur babies have always slept in the bed with me. I have 4 fur children that bark and 3 that meow. The cats come and go but the dogs are usually in bed all night and never move. It has gotten very annoying for sure. I have a 90lb boxer, a 50lb English bulldog and 2 small dogs-a shih tzu and a shih tzu mix. Have you ever tried to move a 90lb boxer in order to get your covers? Believe me, it is not easy. Seriously, look how big those feet are! He is huge! Recently, I was given the opportunity to review a Nature’s Sleep Dog Bed with Memory foam. I was really excited to get the bed. I could not wait to get at least one of the big dogs out of my bed.

030I am a member of a local group on Facebook where people post things for sale. Well, the other day, someone posted an adorable litter of puppies. The puppies are part Shih Tzu and a mystery dad-either a papillon or a terrier type dog. They look like little fuzzballs right now. Of course, loving animals like I do, I could not resist. I sent the girl a message to let her know I was interested. I went to pick my new baby up yesterday and fell in love.

What do you think? Irresistibly cute,or what? My son named her Fluffy Pia. LOL! He has a Puppy Pia. I love it when kids name your pets. They come up with some cute stuff. Our other dogs took right up with her-and so did the cats. They were all being protective of her. The cats would aw the dogs away from her and the dogs were letting each other know that the puppy was theirs. It was quite amusing to watch them. As you can see in the photo below, she really took up with our make boxer, Rambo.

Does Your Dog Have Fleas?

Life  Comments Off on Does Your Dog Have Fleas?

Did you know that fleas are not just a summertime pest? This is especially true for inside pets. Having three dogs and three cats, I learned this lesson the hard way. According to the New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, there are an estimated 1600 species of fleas. There are dog fleas, cat fleas, and even human fleas. Creepy, right?

What is horrible is that these creatures live on our beloved pets and can cause a myriad of health problems-not to mention that the fleas can infest our homes. Fleas can cause skin problems, allergies, and even anemia in pets. One of my dogs had fleas so bad that she was very anemic. I spent quite a bit of money at the vet to get her back to her normal pre-flea health. You have probably heard the old adage, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. This is so true of your dog’s health and fleas. Since my fur baby’s illness due to fleas, we have used frontline plus for dogs to control the flea population on our pets. Lucky for us, they also make a Frontline Plus for cats.

Of course, flea eradication would not be complete without doing a thorough clean-up on everything in your home that may have gotten fleas, flea eggs or larvae on them. This includes vacuuming any carpet in the house that your pet has access to. You should also vacuum any furniture that your pets may lay on. This means removing all of the cushions and vacuuming under them. Be sure to remove the vacuum cleaner bag from the vacuum cleaner when you are finished. Take the used bag out of the house to prevent the fleas from getting back into your home. The pet’s bedding should also be washed thoroughly to get rid of any flea infestation. Keeping your house flea free is not a hard thing to do. Just be sure to use a good flea prevention product and make sure to keep your pets away from areas that may be infested with fleas.

This is the first year that I have had cats at Christmas. We have a momma cat and her two kittens. The kittens, Fufu and Meowmeow, have decided that the tree is a new house full of toys. Over the past week, I have had to rehang most of the ornaments. As you can see in this picture, Fufu has made herself at home in the tree. I have even caught Meowmeow chewing on the tree. It is an artificial tree. I have no idea what could be so tasty on it but he seems to like it.

I am trying to figure out how to keep them out of the tree but have not come up with any good ideas. If anyone has any ideas, they are all welcome! I am tired of redecorating my tree.

006I have dogs and have never had problems with the dogs getting into the tree. My toddler never messed with the tree when he was little either. I am really frustrated by these silly kittens. I do have to say that she looks awfully cute in the tree though. I love my babies, so I guess I will get used to fixing the tree. I just hope they do not knock it completely over! LOL!

I started to title this post as “An Introduction to Our Fur Children” but that would have left out our scaled family members. You see, we have 3 dogs, 1 cat, and 2 aquariums with 8 fish.

We will start with Rambo, our Boxer. Rambo came into my life when my 20-something year old stepson, Glen, decided he wanted a puppy. Mind you, he did NOT ask first. I absolutely HATED this dog. He was nothing but a gangly, long-legged oaf that destroyed everything in sight. Fast forward a few years and the stepson decided to buy a house and left without his dog. You see, I am a stickler for the fact that if you are going to have a dog, you MUST have a yard to let him in and out. He did not have a yard and I knew he had no intentions of walking him every few hours. Nor would he have picked up the “loads” that this now 90lb dog would leave. So, he stayed here. He is now 7 years old and he belongs here. My stepson is now married with a baby. He also now has a female boxer named Reba.

Next is my Sadee. She is my 6 year old screw-tailed English Bulldog. She is a big old baby. She is also an expensive baby. Bulldogs can be quite expensive and she will probably be the only one I ever own. My mom gave me the money to buy her. She is spoiled rotten and loves to have her butt scratched. I call her my Sadee Belicious.

Next up is Sophie, otherwise known as Puppy Pia. She is a Shih Tzu that Mom bought for me for my birthday a few years ago. I nicknamed her Sopapilla and Caden could not say that-so it became Puppy Pia. She is known as Caden’s Puppy Pia, not mine. As you can see in the picture, she loved the snow this past winter.

Here is our Momo kitty. She is a real sweetheart. I am amazed that our dogs let us have a cat. They were very accomodating of her from the time we brought her home. Of course, this is Caden’s kitty. He lugs her around and just loves his Momo.

Next are our fish. Most people don’t name their fish and we did not name ours first tank of fish. It wasn’t until we got George that we named our fish. George is a Jack Dempsey Cichlid. He is a pretty awesome fish. He interacts with us when we go near his tank. George and Rambo spar with each other through the glass. When Caden rides his bicycle in front of the tank, George tries to attack him. We also have Perry the plecostamus. He has been relegated to the other tank with the bala shark, cory cats and the gouramis. George did not seem to like the company.

So, that is our pet family. There is never a dull moment around here with all of these animals. Did I mention that all of the dogs and the cat sleep in the bed with us. LOL!!
