I was recently chosen as one of Shoplet’s Top Bloggers. As part of the blogger program, I get to review some really awesome products. I previously wrote a review on few office supplies from Avery. As a thank you for providing the review, I was sent several more items in appreciation. In this shipment, I received:

  • Large blue zippered tote bag- Made of heavy duty canvas, this tote bag is great for carrying those “just-in-case” items that you may need. It would also make a great beach or snack bag.
  • Small insulated lunch bag-Great for taking your lunch or a few snacks and drink that you need to keep cold.
  • Reusable water bottle-Made of eco-friendly materials, this bottle is great to take on that bike ride, run or even just to use around the house.
  • 4GB flash drive-Very handy to use to back up your files, photos, etc.

All of these items have already been useful to me and I really love the fact that they were sent to me in appreciation of my previous review.

002I was recently given the opportunity to review the Swingline Stack-and-Shred Shredder 60X. What an awesome machine! I have one of those “other” shredders that is on top of a trash can and it does not hold a candle to the Swingline Stack-and-Shred.Not only is the “other” shredder ugly, I never used it because with a young child in the house, I was worried about little fingers getting in the blades. With the Stack-and-Shred, everything is enclosed which made me feel much better about leaving it out in the open. Did I mention that it also looks good?

008Having spent a lot of time shredding confidential papers when I was working an office job, I know what it means to spend the whole day shredding papers. I spent countless hours in front of a shredder feeding page after page into the chomping blades. The companies I worked for subsequently hired a shredding company to come in and do the dirty work. Keep in mind that the Swingline Stack-and-Shred 60X is not designed for larger office environments but it is perfect for home or a smaller office. Swingline does make larger Stack-and-Shred shredders with the capabilities of shredding larger amounts of paper.

009As you can see from my pictures, I started out with a good-sized stack of papers to shred. While I was shredding paper, I was able to do a few household chores. How could I do that? Easy. I opened the top of the shredder, placed the paper inside and shut the top. I was able to wash a sink full of dishes while the shredder did its job. When that stack was finished, I proceeded with my next stack after emptying the shredded paper drawer. I swept the floors while that stack was reduced to shreds of paper. I continued stacking the papers (about 60 pages at a time) and dumping the drawer whenever it would finish.

036Meanwhile, my son was anxiously watching the paper fall into the drawer through the clear area of the drawer. This is another great feature-you can see when the drawer is getting full.

By now, I bet you are wondering how loud this machine is. In my opinion, it sounds something like a hand mixer on low speed. Not very loud at all. As you can see, it did not seem to bother my FuFu Kitty while she was eating. She is due to have kittens any day now. (Need a kitty or two?)

040I ended up with a huge trash bag full of shredded paper and a lot of work done. It was nice to feel productive. Especially after being sick all week and not getting anything at all done around the house.

My overall impression of the Swingline Stack-and-Shred is A+. I love it. It is well worth the price and I see my future as being free of stacks of papers to be shredded or burned. A couple of other features that I have not mentioned are:

  • Shreds regular sized staples and paper clips without having to remove the staples before putting them into the shredder
  • Shreds credit cards
  • Manual feed option where you can just insert a few pages in the slot on top. This is also good if you have envelopes.

Things to remember:

  • The shredder is not a magician-don’t expect it to pull an envelope full of papers into the blades. Envelopes do better if placed through the manual slot.
  • If you recycle the shredded paper, be sure to not let items mix in with the paper. For example, when shredding a credit card, empty the paper bin so the shards of plastic do not mix with the paper.
  • Don’t expect to shred stack after stack at one session. The poor machine will need a break in between, even if you don’t. Smile There is even a cool down indicator just to let you know. If you have a lot papers to shred on a regular basis, you should check into the larger capacity shredders available from Swingline.
