I am so “becited”(excited), as my son said this morning when he saw the snow on the ground. Week 2 and I am down 6 pounds. I am happy to say that the Nutrisystem program has been so easy to stick to. It has always been hard for me to stick to any type of diet but I am learning to space out my meals and eat healthier.

I really like the foods. My favorites for each meal so far are:

  • Breakfast-omelets and muffins
  • Lunch-tortilla soup and quesadillas
  • Supper-beef/mashed potatoes/green bean dinner and pretty much all of the Chef’s Table Collection dinners
  • Dessert-Thin Mint Crisp bar and the ice cream sandwiches

I am really feeling good about losing weight. I am looking forward to being able to play with my son and not feel so down and out afterward. He keeps asking me when I am going to be skinny so I can run and play with him.

Last year, my mother-in-law fell in her driveway and broke her hip. She had just returned from choir practice that evening. Fortunately, her sister tried to call her and receiving no answer, she called us to check on things. My husband found his mother sitting outside of her door, shivering in the cold with a broken hip. She had dragged herself up the hill and to the door. She was too weak to open the door by the time she got there. We thought we were prepared for things like this. After her stroke several years ago, we convinced her to get an alert system where she could wear a device around her neck and press the button if she needed help. That night, she used the button to no avail. You see, you have to be within a certain distance of the station in your home and she was too far from the base unit. How I wish she would have had the 5Star Urgent Responder that night. I was sent one of these devices to review and really like the peace of mind it gives me.

The 5Star Urgent Responder is a device that works on cell phone service. You are not required to be within a certain distance of a base unit. Best of all, unlike the other alert systems, you don’t have to wait for a phone call from the service to see if there is an issue. With the 5Star device, all you have to do is press the button and hold it down for several seconds and it actually calls 911 for you-right then. I know this because I inadvertently held the button down too long and it called my local 911. Lucky for me, I was able to tell them everything was fine and I was just testing the device. YIKES! It scared me when they answered and said “Clarksville 911”.

I am planning to have a talk with my mother-in-law about the 5Star Urgent Responder. I think she would be happier with it than the other alert system she is using. Not to mention that I think the 5Star service is a bit cheaper. This device is also great for children and is supported by John Walsh. It is small and can be attached to your keychain, a backpack, pursestrap, etc.

Want to know where you can get your very own 5Star Urgent Responder? You can purchase one at Walmart or Sears right now and get a free months service (limited time offer). You can also win one here at Mia’s Musings by entering the Share the Love giveaway!

As a mom to a child that has speech problems, I am always on the lookout for products that can help with his speech disability. As a blogger, I was fortunate enough to be able to review the Rock N Learn Letter Sounds DVD. All I can say is WOW!! This DVD has helped us in so many ways.

Caden was really excited to open the package when we got our DVD. He immediately wanted to watch it. That first day, I think he watched it 10 times. He followed along with what they were saying and repeated the letters when they were shown on the screen. I love the way that the DVD shows the mouth movements for each letter. Unfortunately with some letters (like K), it is hard to see the way you move your tongue in the rear of your mouth. Since receiving the DVD, he has learned to articulate his “L’s” and a few other letters. His teachers and speech therapist are very happy with the results.

Now, I know that I could leave it all up to his speech therapist to do all of the work, but as a parent, I feel like I should do what I can to help him at home. His speech therapist has been tremendously helpful in teaching him how to say his letters, but he only gets speech therapy at school for a few minutes a week. If you have a child with a speech problem, or even if you are just trying to get your child to learn his or her letters, the Letter Sounds DVD is perfect!! All-in-all, I would definitely recommend the Rock N Learn products for your child.

Rock N Learn has a variety of DVD’s based on ages and subjects such as:

BUY: You can purchase Rock N Learn DVD’s and CD’s from the Rock N Learn website. You can even use discount code JQ7711 for 25% off at RockNLearn.com. Did I also mention that the prices are very reasonable?

WIN: Mia’s Musings is also giving one lucky winner the chance to win their very own DVD/CD of choice from Rock N Learn! Be sure to enter below in the Rafflecopter form for your chance to win!!

I am so excited-TruKids saved me from piles of laundry! My son actually washed his hair all by himself!! He will be 5 years old in a few weeks and he hates getting water in his face. I usually end up with 5 or 6 wet washrags after we wash his hair. The normal scenario is:

  • Give him a rag to put over his eyes
  • Use large cup to pour water on his head
  • Give him another rag during the hair wetting and another after
  • Shampoo his hair
  • Rinse the shampoo out
  • Give him another rag during the rinse and another after
  • Finished

When I received the Silly Shampoo, he could not contain his excitement. He had to go take a bath right then so he could wash his hair. I expected that part but definitely did NOT expect him to want to wash his own hair. He could not wait to get the Silly Shampoo in his hands so he could rub it on his hair. Now, I did have to help with the rinse but I did not expect him to do that part. He was acting all kinds of silly in the tub, so I teased him about the Silly Shampoo making him silly. 004I also loved the smell. Even after a couple of hours, his hair still smelled good. When I have used other kids shampoos, they did not leave a refreshing scent.

We also received some Dancing Detangler to review. Since he does not have a lot of hair, I decided to use it myself to see how it worked. The Dancing Detangler also has a nice refreshing scent and worked very well at helping to keep my hair from being tangled without feeling icky at the end of the day like the spray in conditioners that I usually use. All-in-all, I loved the TruKid products and their brightly colored bottles. The catchy names are also a super great way to get the kiddo’s attention.

Trukid.com makes a variety of products for both kids and adults.Their shampoos, lotions, sunscreen and other skincare products are all natural and value-priced. The products are FREE of parabens, pthalates, gluten, BPA and many other harsh chemicals. Definitely a plus in my book. TruKid also focuses on creating healthy habits for children and promoting positive choices. Their product line is also accompanied by a host of fun, educational materials such as rhymes, songs and games. You can find fun downloadable printouts for the Earn-A-Star Checklists so kids can keep up with the good things that they do such as brushing their teeth, eating a healthy breakfast, etc.

To find more information about TruKid products and the ingredients used, be sure to visit the TruKid website at TruKid.com. You can purchase the products from the website. We also have a TruKid coupon code for you to use to get a free bottle of Silly Shampoo when you make a purchase of $35 or more. Be sure to enter the coupon code: sillymom (limit one use per customer).

You can also win the same products that I reviewed: Silly Shampoo and Dancing Detangler. Just enter your information in the Rafflecopter form below. I was recently given the opportunity to review a shirt from Bobiam Streetwear. What I like about this company is that they “give back”. Bobiam contributes $1 of every online sale to charitable organizations committed to kids’ art.

Bobiam logo curves black

Founded in 2010, Bobiam strives to help others realize the American Dream. Bobiam’s edgy designs are created exclusively by children. They feature guest artists, and pay all of the artists $1 of every shirt sold in their design.

You would never know that the shirt I received to review was designed by a child. When I received the shirt, the first thing I noticed was the softness of the fabric. It is definitely not made of cheap materials. I fell in love with the feel of it immediately. Upon unrolling the shirt, I focused on the image. It was very unique and I truly can’t believe it was designed by a child. The shirt I received was the Ladies Rockapeller Create Peace Tee. The “Rochapellers” are shaped in a peace sign with a few misplaced from the symbol. At the bottom right of the shirt, there are words that say “Creat Peace”. A very unique design that I am sure to enjoy for quite some time. I wore it to school to pick up my son and his teacher asked where I got it. She really loved the thought behind it. She, too, was shocked when I told her it was designed by a child.

Bobiam can be found on Twitter @BobiamStrtwear and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/BobiamArtisticStreetwear

Bobiam Artistic Streetwear is generously offering a $30 gift card toward a Bobiam item of the winner’s choice! The giveaway is open to entrants aged 18+ who reside in the continental United States.                                                   Whole Grain Rolled Oats – 5 lb. bag

As one of my New Year’s Resolutions, I have been trying to eat a lot healthier. Over the past few years, I have gotten into the habit of eating convenient, prepackaged foods. I am working on getting back into the habit of eating healthier foods in order to feel better. In my opinion, eating healthier foods will make me feel better. I have been given the awesome opportunity to review products for Tropical Traditions. They carry a variety of healthy, organic products. In celebration of National Oatmeal Month, I chose to review the Whole Grain Rolled Oats – 5 lb. bag.

A little info from the Tropical Traditions site:

Oats provide high quality, well-balanced protein. Thick Rolled Oats and other whole grain oats are a good source of soluble fiber. Tropical Traditions Thick Rolled Oats are most commonly used for oatmeal, and cook in about 15 minutes. Thick Rolled Oats can also be used in granola and of course oatmeal cookies.

Now, if you are like me, you are used to using instant oatmeal. In my opinion, instant oatmeal just has no flavor to it but with all of the added flavors, it was tolerable. Enter the oats from Tropical Traditions and you have a whole new taste experience. I decided to make homemade oatmeal cookies for my review. I used an old recipe that has been in my family for quite some time. You can view it in my post: Soft, Chewy Oatmeal Cookie Recipe. I made them with chocolate chips and they were truly scrumptious.

You can purchase Whole Grain Rolled Oats from Tropical Traditions. You can also enter to win a bag for yourself during the Toast to 2012 Giveaway Hop which runs from 01/10/2012 through 01/17/2012. Also, with your first purchase from Tropical Traditions, you will receive the Virgin Coconut Oil recipe book for FREE! This book has great recipes that feature their organic products. Be sure to also sign up for the Tropical Traditions newsletter to be in the know for future promotions and product information.

Disclaimer: Tropical Traditions provided me with a free sample of this product to review, and I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose. Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a product giveaway in return for the free product.

Swingline SmartTouch Stapler and Swingline Premium Chisel Point Staples: A Review

Reviews  Comments Off on Swingline SmartTouch Stapler and Swingline Premium Chisel Point Staples: A Review
Dec 312011

I love office supplies. Yeah, I know that might be strange to some people but it is so much fun to get new goodies to use in the office. Ink pens, sticky notes, and even paperclips are so much fun. I was really excited when I found out I was getting some office supplies to review from Shoplet.com! I received a Swingline SmartTouch Stapler and a box of Swingline Premium Chisel Point Staples to review.

Now, let me explain why I love a good Swingline Stapler. After working in the medical records department of a local hospital for nine years, I know what a good stapler is. There is no better feeling than when you click the stapler and it actually works. I have used a myriad of staplers over the years. Most broke within a short period of time. Swingline never let me down, so I was excited to try this new model. I was not disappointed.

First of all, the positives:

  • Nice ergonomic design that is easy to handle. It fits right in your hand and can also be used while it is sitting on the desk.
  • Easy-peasy stapling. The SmartTouch requires minimum effort for the staples to go through the papers. It is designed for use on up to 25 pages and it works effortlessly on those 25 pages.

Then, the negative:

  • There was only one negative aspect. This being that there are no instructions on how to open the stapler to put the staples in it. I fiddled with it and figured it out but it was kind of tricky. Of course, once I figured it out, it was easy.

As for the staples, they came in this neat little plastic box that looks much better sitting on the desk than those cardboard boxes. The box keeps the staples nice and neat so you don’t end up with a jumbled mess. The staples also go effortlessly into the paper with the Swingline SmartTouch stapler.

You can find these great Swingline products at Shoplet.com along with other great office supplies.

I received a Swingline SmartTouch stapler and a box of Swingline Staples in order to complete a product review as part of the Shoplet.com blogger program.  I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post.  Any opinions expressed are 100% my own.

Review: Eitech® Beginner 3-Model Crawler Vehicles Construction Set

Reviews  Comments Off on Review: Eitech® Beginner 3-Model Crawler Vehicles Construction Set
Dec 182011

eitechI was given the privilege of getting the Eitech® Beginner 3-Model Crawler Vehicles Construction Set to review. Eitech building sets are designed, engineered and manufactured in Germany. Included in the building set are 250 construction pieces (made of plastic) and the tools to put it together. This kit will build 3 construction vehicles-but not all at the same time.

I have to admit, even though my son was totally excited to put this together, I was a little skeptical. There are a LOT of pieces in this box. I was concerned about whether he would be able to actually put it together or not. I guess I should have known better than to worry. He had everything out of the box and was checking out the instructions before I realized it. The instructions have photos to show you the steps to put it together-which is awesome because most kids his age cannot read yet. This particular set has 3 ways to put it together and we had a blast building the crane and the other 2 crawler vehicles.

The first one he wanted to build was the crane. Since this was our first one, it took us a few minutes to find all of the pieces we needed. Once we got the hang of it, the pieces fell into place. I love the idea that the kit comes with its own tools to put it together. Being able to build several items from the same pieces is pretty neat too. After we built the crane, he played with it for a while and then decided he wanted to build one of the other ones. He did the same with that vehicle and then made the other one. He finally decided that he lied the crane better and it is still all put together.

This toy is definitely an excellent one in my book. It helps build the skills needed for handling tools and the thought processes in planning what to do next. Unfortunately, I was unable to take any pictures of us putting it together because my camera broke on me. Believe me when I say that we had a great time together building the toys.

I received the product listed above for review. All opinions are 100% my own. No other compensation was received for this post.

I have not worn jewelry in several years now. Since I quit my out-of-the-home job, I just have not had the desire to get dressed up and wear jewelry. However, I do love jewelry and have decided that I need to find some pretty pieces that I can wear everyday. On my quest to find something simple yet elegant, I found a company called NanoStyle. They have a truly unique line of silver pendants that are engraved with 24K gold. NanoStyle imprints 24kt gold on both black onyx pendants and cubic zirconia pendants.

I contacted NanoStyle and they were gracious enough to send me a sterling silver Chakra pendant to review.
The Chakra pendant is a black onyx pendant with a beautiful Chakra system image above the ohm symbol, as you can see in the photo above. The pendant is absolutely beautiful. The clarity of the image is stunning.

Among their other choices were the cubic zirconia pendants which can be customized with the color of your choice. They also have a beautiful pendant that has “I Love You” written in 120 languages. When I ordered, they were out of that particular pendant. The “I Love You” pendant seems to very popular. There are also a variety of Christian, Judaism and New Age pendants available. The pendants come with a 45cm silver chain (that can be upgraded for a fee) and a magnifying glass key ring that you can use to get closer look at the engraving.

You can purchase one of these lovely pendants at the NanoStyle site or you can enter to win a silver pendant necklace of your choice during the “One Stop Christmas Hop” going on from now until December 6th 2011. Make sure to “Like” NanoStyle on Facebook at facebook.com/Nano-Jewelry or follow them on

Letter From Santa-Review and Giveaway

Reviews  Comments Off on Letter From Santa-Review and Giveaway
Dec 012011

I remember as a child, sitting out in the front yard on the swing with my daddy and looking up in the sky for Santa. We always saw the red lights of Rudolph’s nose, glowing in the night sky. Of course, those are all distant memories now. I lost my dad last year at the age of 84, but I have all of those magical memories to look back on.

Now that I am a parent myself, I am following through with our tradition. I want my son to believe in the magic of Santa. Therefore, when I was given the opportunity to review a letter from Santa himself, I jumped on the chance! At LettersFrom.com, you are able to customize your child’s very own letter from Santa. There are 3 letter styles that you can choosefrom. This helps if you have more than one child so they all do not get the same type of letter. When we received the letter in the mail, it was postmarked from the North Pole (Alaska) and was addressed to Caden. Like most kids, Caden loves getting the mail, and is even more excited when it has his name on it.  He was so excited to see who the letter was from and was even more-so when Santa referred to his favorite toy on the wish list. Santa even mentioned Puppy Pia, which is Caden’s dog.

The friendly elves over at LettersFrom.com have offered to give a lucky reader a letter from Santa of their very own. All you need to do is visit the Turkey Hunt Giveaway Event post and enter! You can also buy your very own letter from the LettersFrom.com website.

I received a letter from Santa for review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are 100% my own.
